Fishing The traditional commercial fishing industry remains fragile. Fish stocks are low, catches are closely regulated and vessels are required to operate in a restricted market. Regulations are technical and often difficult to interpret by those who are required to comply with them. Despite this, small vessels are required to operate in a hazardous environment, extreme weather and in busy waters. With several years experience of assisting skippers, owners, crew and their respective insurers to operate in a safe, legal manner and to mitigate their losses when accidents do happen, at Taylor Marine Law we aim fully to protect their legal rights. We have appeared in Magistrates Courts throughout the South of England, successfully appealed fines and have helped to ensure that skippers are not treated excessively by the Courts. We have a good working relationship with DEFRA, MCA and other regulatory bodies. We have represented members of the industry in respect of collisions, groundings and injuries incurred at sea and have good links with surveyors and foreign lawyers. We can also advise on the contractual issues associated with owning, purchasing and operating vessels. We have particular experience of: Collisions, pollution and incidents at sea Insurance matters and disputes Criminal prosecutions relating to catches and recording of fish on board EC Regulation Breaches of technical regulations concerning nets Representation in the Magistrates Court and appeals against fines Arrest and Detention of vessels and negotiating their release Building contracts and disputes Sale and purchase of fishing vessels and licences Personal injury claims Technical Regulations Employment issues Contact us by e-mail: enquiries@taylormarinelaw.com |
